A Modern-Day Esther’s Response to Mamdani’s Rise

New York has always been more than a city. For many Jewish families, it was the first safe harbor after the Holocaust and the heartbeat of the American-Israeli friendship. That is why Israel watched in disbelief as Zohran Mamdani, a politician who supports the BDS movement and refuses to affirm Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state, celebrated victory in Brooklyn.

“The Big Apple has fallen,” said Israeli lawmaker Avigdor Liberman, urging New York’s Jews to consider returning home to Israel.

Across Israel, Mamdani’s win was broadcast live. Commentators called it a turning point, a moment when New York’s moral compass spun off course. For some, it symbolized a larger drift in Western culture where the language of “justice” and “inclusion” is used to disguise hostility toward Israel.

And as for the city that calls itself the Big Apple—we remember what happened the last time someone took a bite.

“New York is walking with open eyes into the abyss into which London has plunged,” warned Israeli minister Amichai Chikli.

Yet this is not a time for despair. It is a time for discernment. Esther faced a palace where the powerful turned away from truth, and she refused to stay silent. The same call rests on us now.

“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place.” (Esther 4:14, NIV)

As believers who love Israel, we answer that call with prayer, courage, and unwavering truth. We know who the Author of history is, and we know He still protects His people.

Today’s Prayer
Lord, protect the Jewish people of New York and Israel from those who use power to harm or deceive. Give courage to leaders who speak truth, and raise up Esthers who act with faith when others stay silent. Let light overcome confusion, and let every lie fall before Your truth. Amen.
