Defiant in the Face of Threats. Professor Michael Ben-Gad Stands His Ground

At a time when antisemitism is rising across college campuses, one professor is showing what conviction looks like.

According to recent news, “Israeli economics professor Michael Ben-Gad faced protests and a beheading threat at the University of Illinois for his pro-Israel views.”

Rather than retreating, Ben-Gad met intimidation with composure.

“I’m more annoyed than traumatized,” he told reporters, joking about his service in the Israel Defense Forces and insisting that threats would not silence him.

Ben-Gad’s confidence didn’t come from arrogance but from clarity. He believes deeply in the right to free speech and in Israel’s moral right to exist. Even as demonstrators shouted outside his lectures, he refused to apologize for his convictions.

“Hostile demonstrations will not silence me,” he said, standing firm amid growing hostility on U.S. campuses.

His story isn’t only about personal bravery. It’s about academic freedom, the right to speak truth even when it’s unpopular, and the strength it takes to confront hatred with calm resolve.

For Christian and Jewish readers alike, Ben-Gad’s stand is a reminder that faith and freedom often meet at the same crossroads. The people who stand for Israel in times like these bear witness to something bigger — a moral clarity that transcends fear.

As Scripture says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, NIV)

Today’s Prayer
Lord, protect those who speak truth in places of influence. Give courage to teachers and students who face hostility for standing with Israel. Let light expose lies, and let truth be heard above the noise. Strengthen us to stand boldly for what is right. Amen.
