“The thought of not speaking scares me so much more.”
On a Friday evening in November 2024, Erin Molan finished what became her last show on Sky News Australia. She poured years of work into that role — well-known in sports broadcasting, then as a commentator, then as a host. But by December her show was over. The network cited no specific agenda. Erin made it clear: her public advocacy for Israel and her refusal to stay silent came with cost.
In one interview she said:
“There’s one thing that I love and care about more than my job … and that’s my little girl. To think that I was putting her in danger, the thought of that terrified me.”
And then:
“The thought of not speaking … scares me so much more.”
Erin grew up in an environment shaped by strong public service and vocal moral clarity. She is daughter of the late Jim Molan (former Australian senator and major general), which gave her context for “stand for what is right” in her own words.
After October 7, 2023, when 1,200 Israelis were killed and 251 taken hostage in the Hamas massacre, Erin said something changed:
“I can see good versus evil, and I don’t think it’s complicated at all.”
She travelled to Israel, visited kibbutzim under attack, saw the aftermath of horror.
“I walked into a kibbutz where people were slaughtered … 20 men digging holes, trying to rebuild. … It was just the most incredible thing.”
When she returned to Australia and her anchor desk, her position hardened. She criticised the United Nations for ignoring Israeli women abducted and raped by Hamas. She said the media were pushing a cover story while minimizing one side of the conflict.
“If people like me don’t speak up, in two, five or ten years the world my daughter lives in will be much, much worse.”
And then the threats began — not only to Erin, but to her six-year-old daughter.
“I get death threats daily … My daughter is threatened.”
Yet she kept going. She said she was “just getting started” after Sky.
“I loved every second of my time with Sky. My show there became my passion … that’s done now, but I am not.”
Erin Molan chose to step forward at a moment when staying quiet would have been easier, safer. She risked her comfort, her career, her family’s safety — to defend life, truth and the vulnerable.
“When hate is allowed to fester, we all lose.”
And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this? Esther 4:14 (NIV)
Erin’s position is not a throne, but it is public, influential and visible. Her “royal position” is her platform. Her decision: to speak.
