Green Paint Red Flags Paris Synagogues and Holocaust Memorial Defaced

What does it say about the world when even Holocaust memorials aren’t safe?

In what can only be described as a chilling reminder of how far antisemitism has spread, vandals defaced France’s Holocaust memorial, two synagogues, and a kosher restaurant in Paris with green paint - the color of Hamas - just days before Shavuot. This wasn’t just vandalism—it was a warning. And we can’t stay silent.

“I am deeply disgusted by these heinous acts targeting the Jewish community,” said French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, who called for heightened security around Jewish sites following the attacks. No arrests have been made.

The timing is no coincidence. With antisemitic violence surging across Europe since Hamas’s October 7 invasion of Israel, France’s Jewish community—one of the largest in the world—has been forced to worship and walk its streets in fear. According to the interior minister, antisemitic acts now account for over 60% of anti-religious hate crimes in France.

President Isaac Herzog expressed outrage that one of the targeted synagogues was built by his great-grandfather. “I urge French authorities to act swiftly and firmly to bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo echoed his words, calling the crimes “acts of intimidation” that have no place in France.

And yet, they keep happening.

At Christian Women for Israel, we are Modern-Day Esthers—and we will not be intimidated. We will not be silent. We stand with the Jewish people everywhere, from Paris to Jerusalem.
