Israel has taken a much necessary step to address Gaza’s water crisis, connecting a key desalination plant in Deir al-Balah to its power grid. This move has provided round-the-clock access to clean drinking water for thousands, a much-needed resource for those affected by the war.
The Southern Gaza Desalination Plant, built by UNICEF in 2017, now produces 20,000 cubic meters of water per day, serving communities in Khan Younis, Deir al-Balah, and surrounding humanitarian areas. Muhammad Shehab, a resident displaced from Gaza City, expressed relief, saying, “The amount of water will increase… life will become easier.”
Meanwhile, Israel’s security cabinet has approved additional measures to support humanitarian efforts in Gaza, including an increase in aid trucks entering the region.
