A Shavuot Devotional - A Recipe for a Heart Filled with the Word and the Spirit

“I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
Jeremiah 31:33, NIV

Shavuot is a feast of remembrance and blessing.

For the Jewish people, Shavuot celebrates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai. It is also a harvest festival, a time to bring first fruits before the Lord with gratitude. Many Jewish families read the book of Ruth, study Scripture, decorate with flowers and greenery, and enjoy dairy foods such as cheesecake, blintzes, or kugel.

For Christians, this same season points us to Pentecost.

In Acts 2, Jewish believers were gathered in Jerusalem during Shavuot when the Holy Spirit came with wind and fire. God had once descended on Mount Sinai with fire. Now His Spirit came with fire again, not to replace His Word, but to write His truth on willing hearts.

What a gift.

At Sinai, God gave His instruction.

In Jesus, the Word became flesh.

At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came to make the Word alive within us.

As a Modern-Day Esther, you are invited into this blessing. Not as someone who replaces Israel, but as someone blessed through Israel. Through the Jewish people came the Scriptures, the prophets, the covenants, and our Messiah.

So perhaps Shavuot is a beautiful invitation for you too.

Open your Bible slowly.

Ask the Holy Spirit to make the Word come alive again.

Let Scripture steady you, correct you, comfort you, and give you courage.

The same God who spoke at Sinai still speaks today.

The same Spirit who filled believers in Jerusalem still fills hearts with holy fire.

A Simple Shavuot Recipe for the Soul

1 open Bible
1 quiet heart
A generous measure of gratitude
A handful of remembrance
A fresh hunger for God’s Word
A willing spirit
A prayer for Israel
A little courage for such a time as this

Directions:

Begin by opening your Bible and reading Ruth 1 or Acts 2.

Pause before you rush.

Ask the Lord, “What do You want to write on my heart today?”

Notice one word or phrase that stands out.

Let it sit with you.

Thank God for the Jewish roots of your faith.

Pray for Israel, for the Jewish people, and for believers to walk in truth and humility.

Then carry one small act of obedience into your day.

That may be a kind word.

A quiet prayer.

A courageous stand.

A renewed commitment to Scripture.

A blessing spoken over Israel.

Today’s Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your Word and Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for Israel and for the Jewish roots of our faith. Make Scripture come alive in my heart again. Give me courage, humility, and love as a Modern-Day Esther. Teach me to stand with Israel, walk in truth, and carry Your light with joy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
