“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.” — Luke 6:38 (NIV)
When a Simple Gift Becomes a Chain of Blessing
Four young men shared a small house while studying at Bible college. One Saturday morning, an elderly man knocked at their door. His shoes did not match, his clothes were torn, and his eyes were cloudy from cataracts. In his hands he carried a basket of vegetables that looked far from fresh.
The students felt sorry for him and bought some of his vegetables. Every Saturday after that, he came back with his basket. Soon, they invited him in to visit. They learned that he lived nearby in a small shack, that he loved to play hymns on his harmonica, and that he loved the Lord. Saturday visits soon became filled with singing and laughter.
Wanting to help, the boys collected shoes, gloves, and coats. They left them in boxes on his doorstep without leaving a note. The next Saturday, the man arrived with a huge smile. “God is so good,” he said. “Yesterday when I opened my door, I found boxes full of clothes and shoes.” The young men nodded, pleased to hear it. Then he added, “You know why He is so good? Because I found a family who needed them more than I do, and I gave them all away.”
That day the students saw a truth they never forgot. When we give with love, God keeps it moving. The blessing does not stop with us. It goes through us.
When God Provides in Quiet Ways
There was once a preacher named John Brentz, hunted by soldiers because he preached God’s Word. He prayed for help, and God told him to take one loaf of bread and hide in an attic. For fourteen days he stayed there. Every morning, a hen climbed the stairs and laid an egg beside him. On the day the soldiers left, the hen stopped coming.
God had provided exactly what was needed, no more and no less.
His provision may come through a miracle, a neighbor, or a single egg at the right time. God always sees His children. “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.” — Matthew 10:29
How God Uses What You Give
Maybe it is a few hours packing holiday food boxes for a family in need, a few dollars to help feed the poor in Israel, or a kind word with a prayer that lifts a heavy heart. The size does not matter. God can take what you give and multiply it into more than you ever imagined.
When you give to others, you join God in His work. Every act of generosity, no matter how small, becomes a seed that grows into blessing. You cannot outgive God, because when you give, He gives back, pressed down and overflowing.
Three Ways to Live Like You Believe It
-
Start with what is already in your hand.
Give from what you have today. God is not asking for more than that. He is asking for your heart. -
Trust God to refill what you pour out.
The same God who sent a hen to John Brentz will provide for you too. -
Let your giving point others to Him.
Each time you give, say, “God put this on my heart.” Your words may plant faith in someone else’s life.
A Question for Today
Where is God asking you to open your hands and trust Him more?
Today’s Prayer
Lord, thank You for every blessing You have already given me. Help me live with open hands and an open heart. When I give, remind me that You are the one who multiplies it. Bless what I offer, and let it bring hope to someone who needs You today.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
