Awarded 'Antisemite of the Year’ by StopAntisemitism

In a deeply troubling and controversial video, political commentator Candace Owens responded defiantly to being named "Antisemite of the Year" by StopAntisemitism, a U.S.-based organization dedicated to combating Jew-hatred. Owens dismissed the allegations, accusing pro-Israel organizations of manipulating the term "antisemitism" to stifle dissent and asserting that the charge no longer holds any "real meaning."

StopAntisemitism, in their announcement, pointed to Owens’ pattern of harmful rhetoric, including her defense of Adolf Hitler’s policies within Germany, her dismissive remarks about Kanye West’s antisemitic tirades, and claims accusing Israel of controlling Hollywood through "sinister Jewish gangs." The organization declared, “From mocking Jewish fears to promoting baseless conspiracy theories, Owens has earned this unfortunate title.”

In her response, Owens accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being the "most prominent antisemite" for his actions in Gaza, alleging that he manipulated global perceptions to portray Israeli Jews as victims. Her comments downplaying Holocaust atrocities, including her suggestion that Nazi experiments were "bizarre propaganda," have sparked widespread outrage. Additionally, Owens falsely accused Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, a beloved Jewish leader, of promoting "Jewish supremacism."

The Dangerous Power of Words
As public figures like Owens use their platforms to spread misinformation and hateful ideologies, the power of words becomes evident. Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor and Nobel laureate, once said, “Words can sometimes, in moments of grace, attain the quality of deeds.” Conversely, words can also cause deep harm, emboldening hatred and fostering division.

The modern rise in antisemitism underscores the need for vigilance. Owens’ rhetoric, such as accusing the U.S. of being “held hostage by Israel” and referring to Judaism as a “pedophile-centric religion,” reflects the dangerous resurgence of old prejudices cloaked in contemporary narratives. This kind of language not only inflames antisemitism but also undermines efforts to foster understanding and peace.

A Deeper Call to Action for Modern-Day Esthers
For those who seek to stand in the gap, this is a pivotal moment. Antisemitism is not merely a historical relic; it remains a persistent and evolving threat. As followers of Christ and Modern-Day Esthers, we must recognize the weight of our words and actions. Proverbs 31:8-9 reminds us to "speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves," a timeless charge to defend truth and justice.

The Jewish people have faced centuries of persecution, yet they endure as a testament to God’s faithfulness. As Christians who honor our shared spiritual heritage, we are called to stand with Israel and the Jewish community. This means countering lies with truth, advocating for justice, and proclaiming God’s promises of protection and restoration.

Modern-Day Esthers’ Takeaways:

  • Words Have Power: As Elie Wiesel said, "The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference." Counter indifference and hatred with intentional acts of truth and love.
  • Vigilance is Key: Antisemitism takes on new forms, requiring awareness, prayer, and a firm response.
  • Defend the Vulnerable: Like Esther, speak boldly for those who cannot defend themselves.
  • Strength Through Unity: Stand in solidarity with Israel and the Jewish people, affirming God’s promises.
  • Faith in Action: Let this be a moment to pray, advocate, and act boldly for Judeo-Christian values.

What Can You Do?
In times like these, we cannot afford to remain silent. How will you respond as a Modern-Day Esther? Stand in the gap with us—pray fervently, speak boldly, and act courageously for Israel and against antisemitism. As Psalm 121:4 reminds us, “He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.”
