The deadly wildfires ravaging Los Angeles this week have left devastation in their wake—destroyed homes, displaced families, and heartbroken communities. Tens of thousands have been evacuated, and entire neighborhoods have been consumed by flames. Yet, even in the chaos, moments of resilience and faith shine through.
One such moment comes from the historic Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center, which tragically suffered catastrophic damage during the Eaton Fire in Pasadena. The historic synagogue, home to a vibrant Jewish community for decades, was engulfed in flames. While much of the building was reduced to rubble, a powerful act of preservation took place: Torah scrolls, containing the Word of God, were removed from the sanctuary before the fire consumed the structure.
This image of sacred scripture being saved from destruction is a testament to the enduring power of faith. It reminds us that even in moments of overwhelming loss, there is hope, resilience, and a commitment to protecting what is most sacred.
As the fire continued its path of destruction, the Chabad of Pacific Palisades also suffered damage, with flames destroying parts of the property. In the face of loss, the Chabad center shared a message of gratitude and hope, stating: “While these losses are difficult, we are most thankful that everyone is safe, and we continue to pray for the protection of all in the affected areas.”
This tragedy has brought stories of bravery and compassion to light. In Pasadena, senior living center staff pushed dozens of wheelchair-bound residents to safety as embers fell around them. Firefighters worked tirelessly, battling intense winds and rapidly spreading flames to save lives and homes.
As Modern Day Esthers, we are called to lift up those in need through prayer. The destruction in Los Angeles is a sobering reminder of life’s fragility.
Let us pray for:
The saving of the Torah scrolls from the Pasadena Jewish Temple reminds us of the enduring power of God's Word. “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” – Isaiah 40:8. Even as physical structures are lost, the Word remains unshaken, offering guidance, comfort, and strength to all who seek it.
We encourage you to join us in prayer and consider how you can help those affected by the fires. Whether through financial contributions to relief efforts, spreading awareness, or offering words of encouragement, your support can make a difference.
Let us be a light in the darkness, just as those who preserved the Torah scrolls remind us of the unyielding power of faith. Together, we can stand boldly, pray fervently, and shine His light, even in the midst of devastation.
And as you join us in praising the Living God for the miracle of the modern-day state of Israel, we pray youā€™ll renew your own resolve to bless Israel and the Jewish people by giving a generous gift of support.
May God bless you for being a blessing to Israel and the Jewish people
