"For Such a Time as This”
One of the most compelling and timeless promises of Scripture is found in God’s statement to Abraham:
“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:2–3).
This promise is crucial for us to understand and believe today as Christians who take God’s Word seriously—and who seek His blessing on our lives.
National Blessing
First of all, God assured Abraham that his descendants, the Jews, would become a “great nation.” This was fulfilled in the birth and growth of Israel, and God further assured Abraham that anyone who blessed, or cursed, Israel would be blessed or cursed in turn.
This promise has never been rescinded. In fact, history is littered with the corpses of peoples and nations who tried to destroy the Jews and wipe Israel off the map.
But the focus that is most critical for us as Christians today is the blessing that God holds out to any individual or nation, in any age, who loves Israel and the Jewish people, and acts for their blessing.
Personal Blessing
This is God’s call for each of us today who names the name of Jesus. We share a tremendous, common spiritual “root” with our Jewish friends, as Paul explains in Romans 11:17–18). Israel gave us our Scriptures, our Savior, the apostles, and so much more.
The debt we owe them is more than just spiritual. Again, Paul wrote: “For if the Gentiles have shared in the Jews’ spiritual blessings [and we have!], they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material blessings” (Romans 15:27).
The Bible also commands us to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6). Jesus loved and wept over His people (Matthew 23:37), and Paul declared his willingness to be separated from God “for the sake of my brothers, those of my own race, the people of Israel” (Romans 9:4).
With the examples of our Lord and the greatest Christian who ever lived before as their inspiration, Christian Women for Israel (CW4I) is seeking dedicated women to rally in support for Israel and the Jewish people through prayer.
CW4I’s focus is the conviction that, just as Queen Esther was raised up by God “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14) to save her people from annihilation, God is calling Christian women today to become modern-day Esthers in Israel’s behalf.
CW4I also sees the critical need to educate the upcoming generation about the biblical, and even political, importance of maintaining America’s historic friendship with and support for Israel. Both Generation X and Millennials are showing a disturbing lack of knowledge and concern about Israel—and even hostility toward the people and land of Israel.
This is a dangerous trend that must be addressed if America is to continue enjoying God’s blessing.
In this battle for the well-being of God’s chosen people, women have played a crucial role for centuries—with Queen Esther as a shining example. Now Christian Women for Israel is challenging women to use their influence in praying for and standing for Israel.
Today, we are seeking Christian women to be CW4I Ambassadors who will travel to Israel and pray at the Western Wall (the Kotel) for Israel, America, and those in great need. Applications are being accepted at CW4I.org
And as you join us in praising the Living God for the miracle of the modern-day state of Israel, we pray you’ll renew your own resolve to bless Israel and the Jewish people by giving a generous gift of support.
May God bless you for being a blessing to Israel and the Jewish people
