For over a year, Israel has fought valiantly against the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah, achieving remarkable military victories that have safeguarded its citizens and contributed to global security. Thousands of Hezbollah terrorists have been neutralized, entire command structures dismantled, and their infrastructure across Lebanon destroyed. These triumphs are not just Israel’s—they represent a stand against terror, bringing hope to all who cherish freedom and justice.
Yet, the recent ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, brokered under immense international pressure, raises serious concerns. Senator Ted Cruz has been one of the fiercest critics of the Biden administration’s approach to the conflict, accusing it of abandoning Israel in its time of need. “This administration’s coercive tactics are shameful,” Cruz said, referring to threats to withhold critical weapons and the suggestion of international arms embargoes. “Israel should not be forced to negotiate with terrorists while under duress from its closest ally. This is not how America stands with its friends—this is betrayal.”
Cruz warned that such actions not only embolden terrorist organizations like Hezbollah but also send a dangerous message to other adversaries in the region. “Every time we pressure Israel to stand down, every time we force concessions, we are telling Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas that terrorism works. It’s a betrayal not just of Israel but of the principles of freedom and justice that America claims to stand for.”
The ceasefire, described by President Joe Biden as a "permanent cessation of hostilities," reflects significant diplomatic efforts. Biden stated, “What is left of Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations will not be allowed to threaten the security of Israel again.” The agreement marks a rare diplomatic success in a region still reeling from the broader conflict, particularly in Gaza. Meanwhile, Lebanon's army has been tasked with ensuring the ceasefire holds. While some Lebanese citizens expressed hope and began returning to their homes, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz reaffirmed that the military would not hesitate to respond if provocations continue.
Despite these challenges, Israel’s resolve remains unwavering. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that the ceasefire does not limit Israel’s freedom to act decisively against threats. “We have pushed [Hezbollah] decades back,” Netanyahu stated. “We eliminated [the late Hezbollah leader Hassan] Nasrallah, the axis of the axis. We have taken out the organization’s top leadership, we have destroyed most of their rockets and missiles.”
Under the terms of the ceasefire, Israeli forces will remain in Lebanon for 60 days while Lebanon’s army takes control of territories near Israel’s border. Netanyahu made it clear that Israeli forces would act “firmly and without compromise” if Hezbollah attempts to rebuild its networks.
Senator Cruz also voiced concerns about how the ceasefire could become a double-edged sword. “Hezbollah is watching. Hamas is watching. They are testing the limits of Israel’s endurance and our resolve. We cannot let this moment become an opportunity for these groups to regroup and rearm while we celebrate a fragile peace.”
The Israeli military continues to prioritize the safety of its citizens. Nearly 70,000 Israelis were displaced by Hezbollah rocket attacks. Israel's military efforts have ensured these citizens can return home safely, even as it warned Lebanese residents near the Litani River to stay cautious due to ongoing military operations. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are expected to shift focus to Gaza, where Israel remains committed to dismantling Hamas, which launched the October 7, 2023, attacks. While progress is slow, international leaders are cautiously optimistic about establishing long-term peace.
For Christian Women For Israel, this moment is a call to action. Israel’s courage and resilience are extraordinary, but it needs allies—both in government and within communities of faith. As modern-day Esthers, we have a God-given role to stand boldly with Israel in prayer, advocacy, and action.
And as you join us in praising the Living God for the miracle of the modern-day state of Israel, we pray you’ll renew your own resolve to bless Israel and the Jewish people by giving a generous gift of support.
May God bless you for being a blessing to Israel and the Jewish people
