In a world filled with challenges—from rising global tensions and violent attacks on Israel’s people to economic uncertainties and natural disasters—we can easily feel like we’re groping in the dark. Darkness, as Scripture shows, is often a symbol of sin, ignorance, and separation from God. But as followers of Christ, we’re called to turn to Him, the ultimate Light, as our refuge and guide.
Jesus proclaimed in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” This light is more than illumination; it’s spiritual truth and eternal hope. When we choose to walk with Him, we find a path through the darkness—no matter how bleak the world may seem.
Scripture reminds us that darkness represents more than a lack of physical light; it’s often a symbol of sin and separation from God. In John 3:19, we’re told, “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.” The choice to stay in the dark is, at its core, a rejection of Christ’s offer of salvation.
The Apostle Paul also speaks to the transformative power of God’s light. When recounting his encounter with Jesus, he says, “I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God” (Acts 26:18). In turning to Christ, we move from a state of spiritual blindness into the clarity and purpose of God’s light.
Recent events serve as a painful reminder of the world’s darkness. Just days ago, we witnessed violent attacks against Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam, a disturbing echo of antisemitic sentiments that have plagued history. On November 9th, we also marked 86 years since Kristallnacht, the “Night of Broken Glass,” when Jewish homes, synagogues, and businesses were brutally attacked. The echoes of history, and a tragic repeat of history are crying out to modern-day Esthers, to stand firmly with Israel and choose light over darkness.
In these times, turning to prayer and seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit can be our greatest response. When we feel overwhelmed, we should remind ourselves of the assurance found in Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Our willingness to step into the light of Christ not only transforms our own lives but can impact those around us. This was demonstrated by courageous Christians like Corrie ten Boom, who risked their lives to protect Jewish people during World War II. They didn’t just passively observe the darkness around them; they brought light through their faith-driven actions.
As Christian Women For Israel, we are called to be a light in the darkness, standing for Israel, praying for peace, and trusting that God’s sovereignty prevails over every circumstance. Let’s hold fast to the promises of Isaiah 60:19-20, “The Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end.”
In choosing to walk in God’s light, we embody hope and courage. We reject the temptation to despair and instead anchor ourselves in His promises. Darkness may be all around us, but Jesus has already conquered it. His invitation is clear: Come to the light and live with purpose, peace, and conviction.
As we pray, let us be steadfast, knowing that our prayers for Israel, for our loved ones, and for the world are heard by a sovereign God who reigns above all. Let us move forward, not as those paralyzed by fear, but as modern-day Esthers, shining the light of Christ in every corner of our lives. May we always choose the light of Christ, a beacon for our faith and a testimony of God’s unending grace.
And as you join us in praising the Living God for the miracle of the modern-day state of Israel, we pray you’ll renew your own resolve to bless Israel and the Jewish people by giving a generous gift of support.
May God bless you for being a blessing to Israel and the Jewish people
