Israel Welcomes Trump’s Election Victory with Hope and Anticipation

In the wake of Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, Israel has responded with both relief and optimism for the future. As crowds gathered in Tel Aviv and leaders across the country expressed their congratulations, the prevailing sentiment was one of renewed hope for the U.S.-Israel relationship and the potential for advancing peace and security in the Middle East. Israeli President Isaac Herzog called Trump a “true and dear friend of Israel,” highlighting the deep bond between the nations and the enduring hope that this friendship will lead to a stable, peaceful future.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a longtime ally of Trump, extended a warm congratulations, calling Trump’s election “history’s greatest comeback” and affirming the shared mission to strengthen the alliance between Israel and America. “This is a huge victory!” Netanyahu declared, marking the beginning of what he hopes will be a new chapter of cooperation and mutual support. Israelis like Elad Bookman, who attended an election watch party in Tel Aviv, echoed this enthusiasm: “I just feel like I can finally breathe a sigh of relief,” he told The Algemeiner. “We know that Trump is good for Israel because we’ve seen him in action.” Bookman cited some of Trump’s past actions, like moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem and recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, as evidence of his commitment to Israel.

Trump’s past actions also include his withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018, a move widely celebrated in Israel as a strong stand against a major threat. Many in Israel are hopeful that Trump’s return to the White House will bring even tougher measures against Iran. According to political commentator Attila Somfalvi, recent discussions between Trump and Netanyahu have likely touched on Iran, and Trump reportedly told Netanyahu to “do what you need to do” in addressing the Iranian threat.

However, some in Israel, like former National Security Council official Helit Barel, encourage a balanced view of the challenges ahead. While Israel remains confident in Trump’s support, Barel noted that Trump’s primary focus on economic stability might influence his approach to Iran, potentially preferring economic pressure and negotiations over military action. Nevertheless, Trump’s staunch opposition to Iran’s nuclear ambitions aligns closely with Israel’s security goals, and there is cautious optimism that his leadership will continue to support Israel’s interests.

As Israel prepares for the new U.S. administration, the country is also navigating internal changes. The recent dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant by Netanyahu underscores the complexities of Israel’s political landscape. Gallant’s successor, Israel Katz, has already voiced his commitment to strengthening the U.S.-Israel alliance, bringing back hostages, and standing against the “axis of evil led by Iran.”

For Israel, Trump’s return to the presidency represents not just political support but also a deep-seated alliance rooted in shared values and common goals. As Christian Women for Israel, we recognize the power of prayer and the importance of standing alongside leaders who seek peace and protection for Israel. This is a moment to continue our prayers, lift up those in authority, and remain steadfast in our support for a future of peace and security for Israel.
